Ahead of the Bell: Apple's iPhone on T-Mobile?

NEW YORK — The iPhone will be available on other cell phone networks as early as this fall and will likely come first to T-Mobile USA, one analyst who follows Apple Inc. closely said Thursday.

In a note to investors, Kaufman Bros. analyst Shaw Wu said his checks with Apple suppliers and others suggest AT&T Inc. will lose its exclusive place as the iPhone carrier no later than the first half of next year.

One reason T-Mobile is a likely candidate is because the company's wireless technology is similar to AT&T's. Sprint and Verizon Wireless use a different wireless standard, so converting the iPhone to run on their networks would presumably involve more technical hurdles.

Wu said motorola v3 razr cherry red unlocked gsm cellular phone T-Mobile also sees the iPhone as key to winning back lost customers, meaning the company will be more likely to settle for Apple's terms.

"T-Mobile does not comment on rumor or speculation," T-Mobile USA spokesman Peter Dobrow said Thursday.

"Would we like to offer the iPhone to T-Mobile customers in the U.S.? You bet. Ultimately though it motorola v3 razr cherry red unlocked gsm cellular phone is Apple's decision on who carries its product," Dobrow added.

In any case, Wu said, Apple needs to sign up another U.S. carrier to keep up the pace of iPhone sales and counter the rising competition of phones that run on Google Inc.'s Android software.

Neither Apple nor AT&T have said when their exclusive deal is slated to end.

In midday trading, U.S.-listed motorola v3 razr cherry red unlocked gsm cellular phone shares of T-Mobile parent Deutsche Telekom rose 40 cents, or 3.7 percent, to $11.33 amid a broader market rally. AT&T shares were up 44 cents at $25.34, while Apple climbed $3.26 to $246.46.

Motorola bx 50 battery retail packaging In Case You Missed It: June 7 - June 13

The biggest problem with having Steve Jobs kick off the WWDC with the iPhone 4 announcement is that all the developer news that also happened gets buried in the press motorola bx 50 battery retail packaging that follows. We would gladly trade three "Steve Jobs Couldn't Get Wi-Fi To Work" articles for just one great new app announcement or dongle sweetness article.

Well, we haven't forgotten that other news happens, so join the Mac|Life stafff, won't you, for all the other stuff that happened this week that isn't just about the iPhone.

Features:

- - There's not a thing in the world quite like good quality free software. And if you're a writer, there are literally hundreds of choices. We've narrowed that down to three gotta haves for your Apple products for when you just have to get that idea out onto the screen.

- - Of course, you're motorola bx 50 battery retail packaging not going to get any writing done if you gets sucked into the gaming world on Facebook, but there are some pretty fun time killers nonetheless.

How-Tos:

- - This regular feature can help you learn a thing or two that you might not have stumbled on yourself. Want to check your iPhone data usage? Want to find an app quickly? Keep reading.

- - See, now, there are things that happen that don't involve Apple products, like the World Cup. But since our readers are Apple junkies, there must be some way to bring futbol and iProducts together. motorola bx 50 battery retail packaging Well we've got the best of the best all ready for you to shout GOOOOOOOOAAAALLLLLLLL!!!!!!

Reviews:

- - The Six-String Thing - Maybe sports isn't really your thing. Or maybe just not soccer. No, maybe you're more a rocking out kinda guy. If that's the case, app developers are taking advantage of all that big screen goodness on the iPad to hook you up with plenty of six-string love.

- - While a lot of apps make use of the iPad's greater screen size to cram more stuff in, an often overlooked wonderful addition is how much more beauty you can see. Star Walk takes the familiar iPhone app and brings the gorgeous night sky and interstellar space to the big screen. And at $4.99? That's a steal, people.

News:

Of course, of course, we're getting to it. Yes, the iPhone 4 was announced, with pre-orders beginning next week and shipping out the week after. Meanwhile, in our photo gallery...and here's the rates on you'll be chewing through thanks to AT&T...plus, the list of where to buy your newest iPhone is growing as ...., though with Apple's tight price controls, it's not like they can offer quite the deep cuts they'd like to...or if you're across the pond (wondering why England could only TIE the US soccer team), ...and if this leak is to be believed, Apple plans on shipping a whole bunch of the new handsets; how many? How does sound?...just don't drop it when you get your hands on the new iPhone, because iFixYouri claims , and a lot.

Of course, the feature packed iOS 4 will be coming along shortly too, and for some people with beta versions of the software, ...maybe instead of worrying so much about rolling out iBooks, Cupertino can , as these gurus are betting the keynote gaffe was related to iOS 4's drivers...maybe someone can look into the and see if there isn't something glitchy going on in there; perhaps someone in the jailbreak community.... since Apple doesn't seem to be able to keep the dev community from , as one enterprising hacker's already jailbroken it.... of course, all that jailbreaking will need updates once iOS goes live with a , though we're sure they'll get around to it...and apparently motorola bx 50 battery retail packaging from Cisco, much like how they got the iPhone name and the iPad from Fujitsu.

Meanwhile, the iPad's been making some news, first because AT&T is often a bag of fail and managed to leave a that Goatse Security drove a truck right through...upon driving said truck, Goatse loaded up on sensitive email addresses attached to the SIMs of these iPads, but really? ...of course we know who in government got their hands on the tablet, as many of the emails grabbed were attached to ...which means of course that now the in this...in more jolly iPad news, the continues to get new wrinkles...and Hulu better get on the stick, because mobilely speaking, netbooks are looking to be around much longer...and we can't tell if this is we've seen lately...or if these are. You tell us.

Biker embarks on social media-driven trek across Canada

Thanks to Olivier Kerebel, I’ll never think of the French as pinky-pointed tea-sipping, croissant-nibbling wimps again. Instead, I’ll think of Olivier’s epic thigh-busting bike ride across Canada that he’s recently launch from Toronto’s Dundas Square. I’ll also think of his savvy use of social media to apple iphone 3gs 16gb black unlocked gsm cellular phone bring his friends along for the journey.

I met Olivier when he was crashing on a friend’s couch (set up via couchsurfing.org). The Parisian is in Canada for a year on a temporary visa, and hopes to eventually end his bike ride in Vancouver. His last blog update -/- places him in Sudbury, Ont. and he’s posted the mandatory photos of the Big Nickel.

Follow Olivier's bike journey across the country with social media.

Olivier is using an array of Web 2.0 tools to document his trip and share it with peers. He has a knack for shooting video while riding that isn’t too shaky, and even narrating a monologue while pedaling – which he somehow manages to upload to YouTube. There’s lots of pictures on his WordPress blog, and Olivier is also updating a and .

But my favourite social media feature of this biking journey is Olivier’s use of Polldaddy.com. A simple radio-button poll sits on the right side of his blog, and after June 6 Olivier’s followers will click away to decide which route he will take across the country. It reminds me of the “Choose Your Own Adventure” book series I was fond of in elementary school. The ability to help determine Olivier’s fate and how he experiences Canada during his trek adds real appeal to reading the blog.

Currently, the poll asks followers how cruel or how nice they plan to be to Olivier in their voting. Right now, it looks like Olivier’s in for a tough ride as 88 apple iphone 3gs 16gb black unlocked gsm cellular phone per cent of respondents indicate they’ll favour more difficult paths (including me – I’m hoping for a Grizzly encounter).

Olivier is also raising money for through his blog, and anyone can make a donation online with a credit card. His goal is a humble $1500, but I’m guessing he’ll meet enough people along the way and gain enough interest with this blog that he’ll surpass that mark before he hits the Prairies.

Apple's Magic Trackpad Revealed?

Engadget's Joshua Topolsky reports:

Of all the surprises we expected to hear about in the WWDC keynote, a multitouch trackpad peripheral didn't exactly pop into our brains. But - whoomp - here it is. What we appear to be looking at is a brand new input device that Apple has dreamed up which connects to desktops (and bookmark php laptops, if you like) via Bluetooth, much like the Apple Keyboard......

Moving to Mac: The Trackpad

Web Worker Daily's Scott Blitstein says:

One of my biggest concerns with my move to Mac was adjusting to a touchpad interface. I've used IBM ThinkPads for years and have grown accustomed to the TrackPoint. TrackPoints are getting scarce, though, and the Trackpad on the MacBook is a highly lauded feature. My friend Christelle even went so far as to call it life-changing. With praise like that, my expectations were high. How well does it stack up?....

Mac Or Windows: Making The Switch To MacBook

Embedded.com's Jack Ganssle says:

I've been lured by Steve Jobs siren song, at least for the laptop.

I have only been to an Apple store on two occasions, both recently, both after the iPad came to bookmark php market. Each of those trips was both awful and fascinating.... I am still unsure how one actually goes about purchasing something....

....I like the idea of having native access to Unix, rather than a DOS command line shell, and the battle with Vista on my desktop left me unwilling to iterate that experience....

The MacBook is absurdly-priced... but it comes out of hibernation instantly... is very fast, and has seamless WiFi. The touchpad supports one, two, three, and even four-finger manipulation which is confusing at first, but greatly speeds navigation.

The machine, both physically and graphically, is simply beautiful, something that once would mean nothing to me. But my wife is an artist and she has instilled some level of appreciation bookmark php for beauty in me....

Larry Magid: Steve Jobs Is A National Treasure

Mercury News's Larry Magid says:

I don't always agree with Steve Jobs, especially with the level of control Apple exerts over iPhone and iPad developers. But that doesn't change the fact that the man is a national treasure. When the history of the 20th and 21st centuries is written in stone, I have no doubt that Jobs will take his place along with Albert Einstein and Henry Ford.

Why I Fired Steve Jobs

The Daily Beast's Thomas E. Weber says:

As Apple's CEO introduces his new iPhone today, and its market cap passes Microsoft's, the man who infamously fired him, John Sculley, tells The Daily Beast's Thomas E. Weber about his regrets, their rift and how their partnership could have worked: Jobs should have been CEO, and Sculley's boss, rather than the other way around. Plus, other 1985 board members on Jobs then and now, and where they are today.

Macintosh Portable Recalled

businessmirror.com's Presy Alba says:

In 1989 Apple's first attempt at making a laptop the Macintosh Portable was met with raves from critics but poor sales from the consumers because of the price issue. To be fair, it was very expensive because Apple spared no expense in the construction: it had all the bells and whistles of a desktop Macintosh and it was portable.

It featured cutting-edge design elements that virtually bookmark php determined how laptops are designed today....

Why I Don't Like The Mac And Loved The Nissan GT-R

TG Daily's Rob Enderle says:

I can like and respect Apple but I've never personally been attracted to Apple products.

The closest was Apple's second generation iMac which I still think is one of the coolest PC designs of all time (though I wanted it in black). However I've often had a hard time articulating why I don't like Apple products. They are attractive, they are easy to use, they are expensive but I tend to buy expensive things, and people stand in lines to buy many of them.

Earlier this week I went on an Exotic Car Excursion where I got to drive a Ferrari, a Lamborghini, a Porsche, a Lotus, an Austin Martian, and a Nissan GT-R. This experience was put on by the San Jose outlet of an outfit that rents exotic cars to drive called Club Sportiva.....

I m going to give you my impressions of each car, which car was most like an Apple product (to me), and why I wouldn't buy one.

Canada introduces anti-spam law as spam URLs become pervasive

Canada introduces anti-spam law as spam URLs become pervasive

The Government of Canada recently re-introduced anti-spam legislation, titled the Fighting Internet and Wireless Spam Act (FISA), in the House of Commons. The goal of the proposed legislation is to deter damaging and deceptive forms of spam and help drive spammers out of the country.

FISA is an important step in the ongoing fight against spam. The May 2010 MessageLabs Intelligence Report indicated that, in Canada, 89.4 per cent of email was spam. The global ratio of spam was 90 per cent.

Analysis revealed that nine out of 10 spam emails now contain a URL link in the message. In May, five percent of all domains found in spam URLs belonged to genuine web sites. Of the most frequently used domain names contained in spam URLS, the top four belong to well-known web sites used for social networking, blogging, file sharing and host other forms of user-generated content.

Domains belonging to well-known web sites tend to be recycled and used continuously compared with “disposable†domains which are used for a short period of time and never seen again. This is perhaps because some work is involved in acquiring them: the legitimate domains require CAPTCHAs to be solved to create the large numbers of accounts that are then used by spammers.

While Rustock is the botnet that uses the greatest number of disposable domains, Storm, which has recently returned to the spamming scene, is the only botnet that uses genuine domains in greater number than disposable domains.

Sixty-five per cent of spam from the Storm botnet uses a legitimate domain, many of which are for URL shortening services. Disposable domains are often used quickly after being first registered, and on average, 50 per cent are used within nine days, before spammers switch to newer domains.

Also, MessageLabs Intelligence intercepted a malware attack featuring the theme of The FIFA World Cup competition that starts in June. Composed in Portuguese and featuring the branding of one of the event sponsors, the email was sent from an IP address in Macau, China.

Once downloaded and activated, the malware produces files that generate pop-up messages and in the background collects information on what other machines are on the same network, enabling the attacker further access to the compromised computer.

The May level of email-borne viruses in Canada was one in 230.9, while the global ratio was one in 211.6. Malware may penetrate an organization in many ways, including drive-by attacks from compromised websites, Trojan horses and worms that spread by copying themselves to removable drives.

The most frequently blocked malware for the last month was the Sality.AE virus, which spreads by infecting executable files and attempts to download potentially malicious files from the Internet.

With spammers and cyber criminals remaining as active as ever, legislation such as FISA can help flush out malicious and illegitimate activities and make sure that Canadian organizations follow better business practices.
